Following our recent vacancy for an Employment Job Coach, we have now taken on two new recruits. Andrew Plunkett and Chelsea Bales have joined the MINT team with eagerness and enthusiasm, bringing with them a range of skills and experience.
Andrew comes to MINT with 11 years of experience working with young people to prepare for and find employment, particularly as part of the team to introduce Project Search to the UK. Further to this inaugural Norwich Project Search, its success has meant that 30 more projects have been set-up throughout the country.
Chelsea finished her degree this year which included a dissertation written on how well the local education system prepares young people for employment. This project gained a participation level of almost 800 students and professionals and was acknowledged by local business people and politicians. This even enabled Chelsea to join a meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss education and employment.
Since joining MINT Andrew and Chelsea have been fully immersed in the world of job coaching. In four weeks our two new recruits have been getting to know all of the young people who MINT are currently supporting, and welcoming those who are thinking about joining us.
The role of Job Coach is incredibly varied and no week is the same as the last. Andrew and Chelsea have been taking mock interviews and supporting at real interviews, visiting young people who are receiving in-work support, and delivering employability skills sessions to groups.
They have also been studying to further their own skills. Andrew has gained his mini-bus driving license and is studying for a further Coaching and Mentoring qualification, whilst Chelsea has been studying to teach Maths at Level 2 and is almost Level 2 in Sign Language.
Both have been attending networking events in order to meet local employers and business people who may be able to offer our young people new opportunities. Events attended include the Chamber of Commerce Business to Business Exhibition, a Business Networking Forum and a networking meeting at The Garage. Current topics are also kept on top of within the office such as, most recently, transgender awareness.
If you haven’t met Andrew and Chelsea already then by all means come in to say hello when you are next passing MINT.
