One of our young people, Laura, has just been offered a permanent job with the Norse care home where she has been doing work experience.
Laura is currently on our Care Pre-employment course, which combines training with MINT and work experience where people can learn “on the job”. The course started in March and has covered topics such as food hygiene, client needs, principles of care, and teamwork as well as providing young people with recognised certificates in Emergency Life Support and Norse Moving and Handling. It is aimed towards young people who know they are interested in the care profession but want to find out more about it, as well as building their skills and experience.
Laura was keen to find out more about what it’s like working in care, and started her work experience at Dell Rose Court in March. She has been involved in talking to residents, helping with activities, serving meals and drinks and has used her moving and handling skills. Laura was enjoying her time at Dell Rose Court and identified that she wanted to find a paid job in care. A couple of weeks ago Laura applied for a job at Dell Rose Court and was offered the job immediately following her interview! Laura says “MINT has been great; getting this job has made the last two years of my life well worth it”. This was Laura’s first interview for a paid job and afterwards the manager of the care home commented that her interview was of amazing quality.
Sarah Bird is Laura’s Employment Job Coach – “I am so so proud of Laura, she has come such a long way since joining MINT. I have really enjoyed seeing the change and enthusiasm in Laura and the staff and tenants at Dell Rose love her being there.”
Congratulations to Laura from all the staff at MINT!
