We thought it would be nice this week for you to read about Rodney Hoffman, who volunteers with the Customer Service Pre-Employment Project at MINT. Rodney is our only volunteer and supports our young people throughout each project, if you see him around then do say “hello”!
Here is what Rodney has to say about himself…
“After a long career working in Electrical and Electronic trades in industry I decided to take a break. As one of my passions is the outdoors I became a volunteer for The Broads Authority and for a number of years was involved at Whitlingham Country Park. During this time I worked with groups of young adults and students, this led to me assisting with YMCA Training in Norwich as a Student Support Assistant.
I built some new links at YMCA Training which resulted in a new opportunity coming my way at MINT and was invited to join them as a Mentor and Student Support Assistant. I have been volunteering at MINT for about three and a half years helping out on various courses on the Customer Service Pre-Employment Project. During this time I have met some great young people and have seen many go forward into the world of work. I really enjoy talking to them, finding out about their hobbies and interests and assisting in any way I can during the workshops.
Through assisting at MINT I have also embarked on a new direction and am currently working part time at City College Norwich on a wide variety of courses but mostly Engineering, Electrical and Construction.”
MINT Pre-Employment Co-ordinator, Adam Savvas, says “MINT really appreciates the time Rodney dedicates to the young people. I have been working with Rodney for over 8 years and during this time I have always found him to have a gift of connecting with a wide range of young people in an enthusiastic and fun way. Rodney provides outstanding support when working one-to-one with young people and enhances the quality of the provision we provide at MINT.”
